Max was great to work with. The estimate was right where we expected and worked performed as promised. All in time and very pleased with results. Will definitely use Midwest Masonry again
Midwest Masonry did a great job replacing my old asphalt driveway along with 2 stone retaining walls with a beautiful poured concrete driveway and mechanically exposed retaining wall. They did a great job explaining the process and didn't tear up my yard much. They go above and beyond and I would use them again.
Max, Darnell and the crew are the best. Top quality work and really easy to work with. The attention to detail and the craftmanship are top notch. The garage they built for us is the envy of the neighborhood. They also did a ton of demo and reconstruction of our back porches and multiple stairs. If you want results that will stand the test of time and is done right, these are your guys. I will definitely hire Max again for my next project.
Max and his team are the most professional masonry company we’ve worked with. We will definitely hire them again for our other projects!
Max was very courteous, and knowledgeable to work with. All work was completed as promised, on time, and on budget. We are very pleased with his work. We would highly recommend his company.
Excellent job. Drive and sidewalk look great! Project went well and there have been no issues with finished project up to this point.
Max McClellan is the owner and a true professional. It's rare when we have had such a positive experience with a contractor ever. They are easy to work with, neat, collaborative and reasonably priced. When we got estimates to do our patio, I would say that Midwest Masonry came in slightly higher than average, but was not the most expensive. The quality work that they have done far surpassed our expectations. Max made suggestions on certain things that we had not thought of, and not in a way that you felt he was trying to up the price of the job. He was not satisfied until we were. We would wholeheartedly recommend Max and his team.
The work looks great. The project took place over a couple non-consecutive days and Max kept me well informed of plans and progress and was flexible to work around my needs and schedule. Max was punctual and showed up when he said he would. I look forward to working with him again.
We are thrilled with our new driveway. Max was there when he said he was going to be and the job was finished in the time frame budget he originally quoted for the job. Everything went as expected and the new driveway looks awesome!
Concrete work is weather dependent. As a result, both the contractor and the costumer have to be patient. While not always the most communicative, when it was our turn and the weather permitted, Max informed us he was ready to go. He handled all of the permits and provided all of the appropriate insurance forms. When they were here, they worked hard, were always courteous, and willing to explain the process. These guys worked hard and finished the job much more quickly than I thought possible. Max was careful to as our opinions and was always responsive to our suggestions. Despite a rain delay, they returned and did a good job of sealing and finishing. They also did a good job of cleaning the site. Good company--we enjoyed working with them.
We started this project back in late 2014 by researching local driveway repair outfits, and Midwest Masonry was one of the vendors we contacted. Max McLellan (owner of Midwest Masonry) came out to the house, looked the situation over, and gave us an estimate based on the square footage to be replaced. During this visit Max answered all our questions and seemed to be very knowledgeable about the work to be done. Hew was not at all worried about the challenges presented by the high retaining walls; he explained that other than the logistical challenge of getting the old concrete out and the new concrete in, the retaining walls would not be a problem. Due to our experiences with water pooling on our current driveway, I was very concerned about getting the drainage right. Because of the retaining walls, all water must be moved down a long drainage pipe to the street. However, I didn't want a lot of slope because I also use this part of the driveway as a basketball court. Max looked the situation over and came up with a good plan that addressed all my concerns. The existing driveway incorporated a poured concrete wheelchair access ramp for our front door, and Max came up with a plan to not only replace the ramp, but to improve the layout and drainage in the process. Max's estimate was reasonable, and explicitly covered demolition and concrete removal, pouring of the new concrete, and applying a brush finish and a coat of sealer at the end. We had the normal scheduling problems and delays, some due to Max and/or the weather, and some due to us. Concrete driveway work is not something that EVER goes according to schedule! However, when our schedules and the weather aligned, Max and his crew showed up and worked hard and efficiently. It took 1-3 days to get all the old concrete out and gone, and then another couple of days for prep work before any concrete pouring could begin. The replacement was done in three separate pours spaced out over a week or so (again, the weather and Max other commitments caused some delays, but that's just the way it goes). The last pour was completed a couple of days ago, and the final sealing coat was put on yesterday. The finished driveway looks great, drains great, and the wheelchair access ramp layout is MUCH better than the old one. One of the unexpected benefits of working with an established outfit like Midwest Masonry was the way they protected our existing driveway section from damage while getting material in and out of the work area. The first thing Max did was to lay down 4 x 8' sheets of 3/4" plywood all the way from the work area to the road - a distance of about 150'. I would never have thought of this touch, and our existing driveway would surely have been damaged without the protective plywood. We are now waiting out the 2 week no-drive period while the concrete cures, but we are VERY happy with the results. We would certainly use Midwest Masonry again if the need arises, and would recommend them to anyone.
This is the second job that Max, and his crew, did for us this summer. Their work was outstanding and Max worked with our contractor (to build a new porch) to make sure the foundation would meet the carpentry contractor's specifications. We are extremely happy with the work performed. Thanks to Max, Darnell, and CJ too! You are all just awesome! We look forward to seeing you all again next year for our next project!!
I spoke to Max and Mike on the phone before deciding to go with Midwest Masonry. I drew a sketch of what I wanted and Mike came to the house to take measurements. He emailed a quote, which was very reasonable. We negotiated a little on the final design and price before the contract was finalized. They scheduled a day, which had to be adjusted around the weather. They arrived when they said they would, removed weeds, leveled and prepared the site, then laid the sidewalks and patios. There were 3 places where they made 1-2 steps to adjust to different levels. The concrete was broom-finished and the color was in the material, not just a surface stain. They put in expansion joints and sealed it. The workers were all very professional and friendly. They knew what they were doing, worked quickly, and got the job done despite having to work around the weather. Mike worked with me to select small blocks for a ledge to direct water runoff. The blocks weren't the size needed, so he cut them in half to fit and made a very attractive curving border on one patio. All the walks and patios were slanted correctly to direct water away from the house foundation. After discussing it with me, they laid down small pebbles in a space between the sidewalk and fence so weeds wouldn't grow there. That really made the job look cleanly finished. After the work was completed, I phoned to ask how to trim a rough edge and Max said he'd do it. He came out the next day and trimmed it. I highly recommend Midwest Masonry. They worked with me throughout the project and were flexible in making adjustments. For example, the color I selected wasn't made anymore so Mike found a comparable coloring agent elsewhere. They were fast at answering phone calls and very friendly. I would use Midwest Masonry again without hesitation. I wish every company was as reliable, high quality, and professional as they are. It was really a good experience. These guys are great and do beautiful work!
The job as always was very well done. The patio is amazing in the backyard of our new home. Max also did the work on the addition garage we had built. The floor and driveway extension. We have used Midwest before and will continue. We had a driveway, sidewalk, and aggegate patio poured at our old home, and were very happy with it as well. Max has always been fair, timely, and professional. He does exactly what he says he will, and makes suggestions if asked to improve the project. He and Darnell work their a**es off. Most of this years work was performed during the extreme heat, but they never slowed down. Anyone would be smart to hire this company. Daniel & Melissa Mason
I first hired Max and his crew to redo my driveway approach and walkway. Everything looks great. I then hired them to extend my driveway approach and build a slab for a garage which came out great, too. I would definitely hire again.
